PS3 to Launch Without Hard-drive Bundled?

June 3rd, 2005 (1:14am) - Masayuki Chatani, Sony Computer Entertainments Chief Technology Officer, has recently lead possible PlayStation 3 owners to become weary of their next Sony videogame console purchase. Chatani has expressed a possible doubt that Sony will not include a hard disk drive unit in the PlayStation 3’s launch package, but instead offer the hard disk separately.

In an issue of Famitsu magazine, Chatani stated that he felt people would want to upgrade to higher capacity drives for the PS3. This statement is believed to imply that Sony will not included the hard disk as an included part of the PS3 launch package. However, the statement is incredibly vague and uninformative. So, this may just be over-analyzation.

The hard disk drive for the PlayStation 3 is a detachable device and Sony has not stated if whether or not the drive would be included as part of the PS3 launch package. If it indeed is available separately from the console, it could cost future PS3 owners a pretty penny in addition to the expected $300+ price tag of the PS3 itself.

We hope to bring you more info on the situation as it develops.
