Nintendo Discusses Revolution... Again; New Info Revealed

June 8th, 2005 (2:50am) - On the morning of June 7th, Nintendo spoke to the Japanese press about the Revolution for the first time. While it was mostly a reconfirmation of features discussed at E3 in May, some minor, yet unknown details were revealed.

First off, Satoru Iwata outlined the console would be small, and quiet. He also mentoned that the controller would be wireless, and unintimidating.

Nintendo then also touched on backward compatability, saying that all of Nintendo’s console games from the NES up to the N64 are technically able to be downloaded to the system, and that the games would become availible through a myraid of services, paid download included.

He also mentioned that the games would be downloaded to the systems internal 512 mb Flash Memory drive. Downloaded demos would be stored the same way.

Iwata-san says the the decision to go with Flash Memory comes from Nintendo’s younger user base, and the concern that that they’d mishandle and ultimately break a system with a Hard Drive. Additional memory would be handled through SD cards.

Nintendo also stated the systems controller, price point, release date, and games lineup would be revealed at a later point in 2005.
