June 24th, 2005 (12:54pm) - Topping off the Media Creates software sales charts for Japan is Square Enixs Drag-on Dragoon 2 for the PS2 with 125,000 units of the game sold in its first week of sale. The game is expected to sell more than its predecessor. The only other new games to appear on the charts is Nintendos new non-game for the Nintendo DS, Brain Dictionary, and Bandais PS2 beat em up, Inuyasha. Both of these games respectively ranked in spots 7 and 8.
The other spots on the chart were taken up by some familiar names, three of which have been strong sellers for the Nintendo DS, Brain Training for Adults and Nintendogs. Still growing in popularity, Brain Training for Adults managed to once again sell more than the previous week with 34,000 units sold.
On the hardware side of things sales have seen a drop from the previous week, however, the Nintendo DS is still Japans best selling game platform for the week with approx. 31,000 units. Nintendos dominance of the handheld market is expected to continue and even improve as the summer onslaught of new game releases for the Nintendo DS continues. We predict that sales will reach its peak with the release of games as Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow and Jump Super Stars, a 4-player brawler that includes hordes of playable characters from Japans most popular anime.
