Over 1 Million DS Units Sold in Europe

June 28th, 2005 (11:37am) - Nintendo has announced that the company has sold over one million units of their best selling Nintendo DS handheld in Europe since the console’s launch in March 2005. In its first three weeks of release the console sold 500,000 units and quickly went on to sell through one million units in three months, with approx. 250,000 units sold in the UK alone.

"The European launch of Nintendo DS has been a massive success," according to Nintendo Europe’s senior director of marketing, Jim Merrick, "with sales shattering all previous records in the opening weekend and remaining consistently strong.

On a worldwide scale, the Nintendo DS has sold over five million units and is expected to sell just as Nintendo’s estimates had planned.

"This product reflects Nintendo’s dedication to innovation and the advancement of gaming, providing novel and exciting new ways to play games," he continued. "European consumers have adopted Nintendo’s sense of fun and innovation to give fantastic support to the Nintendo DS."
