Miyamoto Talks Revolution to Sydney Morning Herald
July 7th, 2005 (12:42am) - Nintendo producer and game designer Shigeru Miyamoto recently sat down with Australias Sydney Morning Herald and spoke lightly on the companys upcoming videogame console, the Nintendo Revolution. Much of what Miyamoto had to say about the platform had already been said many times before by the company and Miyamoto-san himself, however, he did happen to say a few new things this time around.
Praising the advancements made in the videogame industry, Miyamoto commented that he believes that todays videogames enable players to do things that they could never do in reality, creating a virtual freedom of sorts. And, as if we havent heard this from Nintendo before, Miyamoto said that creating more realistic graphics in games shouldnt be the only direction to take the future of gaming. "I am not convinced realistic graphics alone make better games," he told the paper. "An extremely powerful machine doesnt equate to great game design." Despite not revealing much about the console at E3 2005 this past May, Miyamoto has confirmed that Nintendo is hard at work developing both software and hardware for the Revolution. "Were having a lot of small groups testing things, building software and hardware at the same time, so were busy," he said. Continuing to support Nintendos mantra on making games and videogames that gamers and non-gamers of all ages could enjoy, Miyamoto said that the Revolution would be a console that "everyone in the family" would be able to enjoy. That which is shrouded in mystery is the Revolution controller and, of course, the platforms controller is expected to be its "revolutionary" aspect. Miyamoto commented on the controller a bit by saying the following: "Sitting in front of your monitor with a controller, theres really nowhere to go from that paradigm, all you can do is make it prettier and faster," he stated. "What Nintendo wants to do is to open up that road, create something that goes beyond." Hopefully, Nintendo will reveal some new details regarding the Revolution, its games, and its controller sometime soon. Reported by Elias Dounis on July 7th, 2005 (12:42am)
