Vivendi Already Planning Sequels to Scarface and 50 Cent
July 7th, 2005 (12:52am) - Speaking to GamesIndustry, biz, Vivendi Universal Games company president Phil ONeil revealed that VU Games plans on making many sequels to the publishers upcoming Scarface and 50 Cent games. In other words, Vivendi is going to milk these franchises to death.
As is one Scarface game isnt enough, ONeil said that we should expect "a Scarface 2, a Scarface 3, a Scarface 4, and consecutive iterations of that product as being a really important component of what were [Vivendi] trying to do here." Additionally, ONeil has said that the company should take advantage of rapper 50 Cents popularity and that "arguably, 50 Cent - while a person - is not necessarily licensed IP in the traditional sense." However, he is a cash cow and its " actually an ability to create a franchise," he continued, "and thats probably the big determination which is the ability to take an IP and make it into a franchise as opposed to a one-off. So were hopeful that candidly, both Scarface and 50, while not original IP, become sustainable franchise brands for us." Of course, there is a possibility that Vivendis plans may fall through if both games happen to perform poorly on sales charts.
