Xbox 360 may not always have a hard drive
August 15th, 2005 (2:54pm) - In the latest issue of Game Informer, J Allard has confirmed that hard drive for the Xbox 360 may not always be included in an Xbox 360 package.
While they werent able to confirm exactly what forms of packaging may be in it, it adds speculation to the fire as to whether or not the hard drive will take a big stance in the 360s life as it has in the Xboxs. As to whether the hard drive will be used for games like it has been on the Xbox, Allard is quoted in saying "Weve said [to developers], Hey look, dont bank on the hard drive always being there. There may be a scenario in the future where we dont want to have a hard drive, and in that case, we have to make sure that the games that youve created are accessible to the broadest possible audience." The Xbox 360 will ship with a hard drive as part of its basis, but some packages may contain a larger hard drive than others. Developers may also have to take into consideration of there being no hard drive when a user plays with their Xbox 360, due its removability.
