TGS 2005: Iwata Keynote
September 15th, 2005 (10:07pm) - Satoru Iwata, president of Nintendo, has just made his keynote address to kick off the Tokyo Game Show. The Revolutions controller was revealed,
Here is a detailed list of what was said: - Iwata says Nintendo has constructed a larger game population through three techniques: the Famicom Mini, the GameBoy Micro, and the Nintendo DS. - Iwata touches on the "touch generation" games, like Nintendogs and Brain Trainer. He says Nintendogs has shipped one million units in Japan already. - Sixty percent of Nintendogs buyers bought a DS as well, according to Club Nintendo statistics. - A giant Wi-Fi logo appears on screen in the background. Iwata says he will reveal much more on next-generation Wi-Fi in October. - Iwata unveils the Revolution controller. - The controller is glossy white, and resembles a remote control; looks very iPod inspired. - Attatchments hook up to the bottom of the "remote." Iwata shows analog control attatchment. The "remote is held in one hand, the analog attatchment in the other. - The controller acts like a mouse in 3D. Iwata says theyre considering packing the two attatchments together with the Revolution. - They showed a video designed to higlight the controllers features. The video was shown as though you were in the TV watching people play. - Footage shows people using the remote in various ways; Playing instruments, Cutting sushi, Making Mario jump by tilting the controller, Swinging a sword, Using it like a light gun, Performing surgery, Conducting music, catching bugs, and showed one person playing with two remotes. - Audience audiably loved it. - Praise came from Hideo Kojima and Square-Enix.
