Nintendo Releasing USB Access Point for the Nintendo DS
September 20th, 2005 (5:56pm) - Next month, Nintendo will unveil their worldwide plans for the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection and in effort to allow as many DS users as possible to take their dual-screened handhelds into the realm of online gaming, Nintendo will release a USB Wi-Fi access point that will allow users without a wireless internet connection in their homes to take their DS handhelds online with WiFi Enabled Online Multiplayer games such as Mario Kart DS, Animal Crossing Wild World, and Tony Hawks American Sk8land.
Play, a European online video game retailer, is already taking pre-orders for the "Nintendo DS USB Access Point," which, according to the sites retail page for the product, is due to be release on November 11th and is scheduled to retail for approx. a GBP of 14.99, a sale from the products official GBP of 19.99. This roughly translates to €23 to €30 and $28 to $36 for those living in the United States. Additionally, similar to what Nintendo has done in Japan, the company is currently negotiating with a number of telecommunications companies in both the U.S. and Europe to offer free Wi-Fi hotspot connections for gamers to use in order to play their DS games online.
