Children of Mana sent to foster developer; New Screens Inside
Square Enix hands off development of the DS' first Mana title. Will Children of Mana fall far from the Mana tree? October 24th, 2005 (9:41am) - Kouichi Ishii, producer of Children of Mana revealed in Japanese magazine Nintendo Dream that the upcoming Children of Mana for the DS wont be developed in house, but instead by Next Entertainment.
Next Entertainment, formerly known as Nextech, has been around since the Genesis days where they worked on Ranger-X and the Genesis version of Virtua Fighter 2. They also ported Resident Evil to the Saturn, and worked on Gran Chaster for the same system. Most recently however, the team was behind Resident Evil: Code Veronica for the Dreamcast, and Shining Soul for the GBA. Ishii says the use of an external developer is intentional. He believes that gamers will have more diverse experiences in the "World of Mana" if different teams are involved more frequently. According to Ishii Next Entertainment worked hard to get the job.
