October 25^th, 2005 (12:52am) - Nintendo has officially announced the North American release of Electroplankton for the Nintendo DS. The game will be released on January 9th, 2006, but it should be noted that the game will only be available for purchase from major online retailers and will only be carried in-store at the Nintendo World Store in Times Square New York. The game will not be available anywhere else.

Electroplankton is not your typical videogame. In fact its one of those titles that Nintendo likes to classify as "non-games." It utilizes the DS’ touch screen and microphone in order for players to create some out of this world music.

"Electroplankton represents just one of the many ways that Nintendo is developing new kinds of software to reach new audiences," said George Harrison, Nintendo of America’s senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications. "Even if you have never played a video game, you can pick it up and start making amazing musical combinations with no instruction."
