Final Fantasy III DS Details
Square Enix reveals some new details on the long rumored-yet-finally-confirmed game in Famitsu October 28th, 2005 (4:48pm) - Theres no arguing that Final Fantasy is one of the most popular video game franchises around, so its only fitting that an installment is making an appearence on the Nintendo DS. As previously rumored, Final Fantasy III will appear on the dual-screened handheld, and for the first time outside of Japan, though it will do so completely overhauled.
Final Fantasy IIIs (not to be confused with Final Fantasy VI which was released for the SNES as FFIII) executive producer, Hiromichi Tanaka sat down with Famitsu to reveal some details about the game. Tanaka said hes going to be very hands on with the completion of the project, and that the members working on the remake are not the same as the original FFIII team. Tanaka said that the game hasnt been ported to other systems because the coding techniques used in the original made it hard to move it onto another system successfully, an odd comment considering the game was originally released for the Famicom (NES), and was developed by meerly ten people. He said that the current portable machines can finally handle the code. He offered solace though, to gamers who have patiently waited for this title, by saying it will benifit from the time it took to finally come out. He says the game will be in "virtual" 3D. While the camera will not be adjustable, it can zoom in for details sake. He also said that the characters, who were once devoid of personality will now be revamped, and look different from one another. The characters will also have an impact on the games progression through their unique abilities and charactaristics. Aside from the job system being fixed, the game will also be completely playable via the touch-screen. Tanaka also said that the main focus will be on single player, though hes going to include a multiplayer mode to play wirelessly so players can enjoy the game with friends.
