PS3 capable of 120 FPS?
SCE's president claims that the PS3 is capable of running games at an unprecedented 120fps October 31st, 2005 (6:20pm) - At the Tokyo International Digital Conference last week in Tokyo, Sony Computer Entertainment president Ken Kutaragi made a bold claim, stating that the PlayStation 3 will be have the technical horsepower to run next-generation caliber videogames at an incredible 120 frames per second.
Kutaragi acknowledged that there are no television sets currently capable of refreshing the screen at that fast of a frame rate. Even with this said, he wants the PS3 to be able to accomplishing such a feat when the technology arrives. To say the least, many industry analysts and gamers across message boards believe that Kutaragi is absolutely off his rocker. The standard in feature film cinema is 24 frames per second and most games today run comfortable at 30fps, with more demanding games, including fast-paced racers such as F-Zero GX and Burnout Revenge, being run at 60 fps. Kutaragis claim is indeed a bold one and many believe that a game with visual fidelity on par with what players will soon come to expect from next generation consoles could not be accomplished on the PS3 at 120 fps without some significant downgrades in graphical effects. Whatever the case may be, well keep an open mind for the time being... Reported by Elias Dounis on October 31st, 2005 (6:20pm)
