Atari Going Bye-Bye Once and For All?

The company just can't seem to stay alive!

February 21st, 2006 (1:15pm) - Atari CEO Bruno Bonnell has made the decision to bankrupt their top 5 development studios after posting a net loss of well over $5,000,000: The most recent in a string of unfortunate events for the company including the departure of Chief Financial Officer Diane Baker and recent credit cutoff from HSBC Bank.

Taking a look at what’s on the butcher’s block and what they are/were working on:

  • Reflections - In development of Driver 4
  • Melbourne House - Developers of the Test Drive franchise
  • Paradigm - In development of Stuntman 2
  • Shiny Studios - Famous for the Earthworm Jim franchise and PC Sci-Fi epic Messiah
  • Eden Studios - Created City of Heroes, and is in development of a Test Drive next-generation title

In addition to the studio cuts, Bruno Bonnell has also declared there will be a significant cutback on employees in North America while no European layoffs are planned.
