February 28th, 2006 (1:53pm) - THQ today announced that MX vs. ATV: On The Edge, from internal developer Rainbow Studios, has shipped for the PSP, bringing the defining off-road franchise to the handheld market and allowing gamers to take the ultimate off-road adventure with them on the road. The release of MX vs. ATV: On The Edge marks continued expansion for the highly successful MX franchise, which has seen console titles MX Unleashed and MX vs. ATV Unleashed reach "Greatest Hits" status in under a year on PlayStation 2, and recently, MX vs. ATV Unleashed debut for Windows PC.
"Bringing the MX franchise to the PSP system with all-new game play features will provide a unique off-road experience for handheld gamers and capitalize on the systems growing installed base, allowing fans to play the leading off-road racing game anytime, anywhere," said Dave Miller, senior global brand manager, THQ. "The overwhelming success of all the MX titles to date has established our Rainbow Studios as the industrys premiere off-road developer." MX vs. ATV: On the Edge lets gamers take the ultimate off-road experience on the road, bringing Rainbow Studios renowned Rhythm Racing physics engine to the PSP system along with new tracks and vehicles and 4-player open class ad hoc wireless competition. Gamers will rip through the sand dunes in new ATV models, launch off snow capped mountains in a fully redesigned monster truck and show off new pimped-out 4x4 golf karts. The Outdoor Freestyle Mode -- exclusive to the PSP -- will feature over 40 rider stunts, and players will battle for off-road supremacy in varied competitions such as SuperMoto, Short track, Hill climbs, and Waypoint races. MX vs. ATV: On The Edge is now available, with all new vehicles and event types, for a suggested retail price of $39.99. Reported by Elias Dounis on February 28th, 2006 (1:53pm)
