GDC 06: Phil Harrison Elaborates on Multiple Aspects of the PS3
Controller, launch, and a couple more demos and confirmations. March 22nd, 2006 (10:34pm) - At GDC, Phil Harrison gave a few more inklings of details about the PlayStation 3:
- Two new demos were shown, using a PS2 controller; a new duck demo and an underwater scene with thousands of swimming fish along with water and sun effects. - PlayStation 3 will be fully backwards-compatible from the start. - Its worldwide launch in November does include Australia, and it will be supported by one million units available per month. - Final PS3 development kits should be available in June. - Confirmation of initial middleware support, including Epics Unreal Engine and AGEIA and Havok 3.3 physics which are all optimized for the system. - The PS3 controllers final design will be revealed in May.
