Sony Stops Production of PSOne

Getting ready for the PS3, the original Playstation line stops production after 11 years.

March 24th, 2006 (12:44pm) - Sony has stopped production of the original Playstation (PSOne) after 11 years.

The Playstation launched in December 1994, and had recently surpassing the 100 million units shipped mark.

Sony noted that the end of production doesn’t mean the end of availability, as the hardware and software for the platform is still selling in countries around the world, and Sony had announced plans to create an emulator that would allow for Playstation games to be played on the Playstation Portable that are distributed digitally.
