Pandemic’s CEO Calls Nintendo’s Revolution "Mind Blowing"

Although, will the newly merged Pandemic/Bioware develop games for Nintendo's new generation game console?

March 29th, 2006 (3:01pm) - At last week’s Game Developer’s Conference, Gamasutra had the oppurtunity to sit down with Pandemic Studio’s CEO Josh Resnick and BioWare joint CEOs Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk, to discuss the merger of these two independent game developers and their future game products. One of the questions asked, in regards to a specific gaming platform, was if whether or not Pandemic and/or Bioware are interested in developing for the Revolution, and it seems as if both companies are fairly optimistic about the platform.

Below is an excerpt from the interview, with Josh Resnick, which address the topic of Revolution game development:

GS: Is either company making a Revolution game right now?

JR: We’re enthralled with the platform just as much as we are with the 360 and PS3. Each of them have very different strengths that our games are going to play to. But we haven’t announced any commitments yet.

GS: Do you perceive difficulties with the Revolution, as far as making games multi-platform?

JR: Well the Revolution is a very different platform, and we’ve actually just seen some things behind closed doors that are just mind-blowing. Very very exciting. They’re doing something that’s very different and unique. I agree that it’s going to challenge the notion of just doing a port.

I don’t think it’s going to be as easy to take a product from one console to the Revolution, and so I think we are going to be looking to see how we can tailor our products to that platform. But we do that also with other platforms as well, it’s just that the Revolution may challenge us even more.

While this doesn’t necessarily reveal any significant news, it is good to hear that more and more game development studios are embracing the ideas of the Revolution’s controller and concepts to evolve gaming beyond that of just graphical upgrades. However, E3 is where we will get to see how excited both developers, publishers and gamers alike are in regards to Nintendo’s next generation game console.
