Revised PlayStation 3 Controller Revealed
Not much different than a wireless Dual Shock 2 but tilt functions added. May 8th, 2006 (9:18pm) - Sony has revealed its revised PlayStation 3 controller, which will of course be called the Dual Shock 3. The controller isnt much different than the Dual Shock 2 millions of gamers around the world are already familiar with in appearance, however, it is indeed wireless and Sony has added some triggers to the controller, very much like those introduce with the Sega Dreamcast years ago, and then adopted by both Nintendo and Microsoft for the GameCube, Xbox and Xbox 360, respectively. Interestingly enough, thats not all... Sony has also attempted to mimic a function similar to the capabilities of Nintendos Wii game controller. The Dual Shock 3 will feature a tilt sensor, allowing the controller to respond to the tilting of the controller in six degrees of movement. Even still, this tilt function does not offer the level of "said" interactivity of the Wii-mote. Nintendos Wii-mote offers a free area of control on the X,Y,Z and plane of movement, in both rotation and movement -- 360 degrees of freedom. The Wii-mote also features an "accelerometer" for gravity force detection, sensing how hard you swing your controller for throwing a grenade, a slash, push objects or swing a golf club/baseball bat, etc.. Additionally, theres also a distance sensor to detect how far away you are from the screen, affecting your interacting with the game. For example, in Ubisofts Red Steel, if you move the controller forward the sword will come closer to the enemies neck. Reported by Elias Dounis on May 8th, 2006 (9:18pm)
