Ubisoft Montreals Creative Director Criticizes Sonys Next-Gen Efforts
Slams Sonys "me too" approach. May 10th, 2006 (1:05pm) - Clint Hocking, Ubisoft Montreals creative director, has made it clear that he is disappointed by Sonys next-generation offerings, claiming that the hardware giant is adopting a "me too" strategy, simply mimicking ideas being utilized on its competitors hardware.
Mr. Hocking criticized Sonys blatant rip-off of Microsofts Xbox Live online game service and then the companys shameless attempt at creating a controller similar to that feature with Nintendos Wii game console. "How much more "me too" can Sony be?" Hocking said. Hocking also strayed down a line of thought which spoke out against the industrys path towards significantly upgrading in-game visuals with each new generation of videogame hardware, arguing that the focus on graphics is a "fundamental problem of approach" that turns game developers into factory workers. He believes, that with the low adoption rate of Hi-Definition TV sets, the majority of consumers wont even really be able to appreciate the time spent on textures, and art shading. Unsurprisingly, Hocking has praised Nintendos efforts with the Wii and its motion sensitive controller. He believes that the controller will help bring more emotion into games, more so than advanced graphics would. Reported by Elias Dounis on May 10th, 2006 (1:05pm) [From: GamesIndustry.biz]
