Use Opera to Browse the Web Using the Wii

Whatever happened to Nintendo’s strict "games only" approach?

May 11th, 2006 (3:14pm) - It has been confirmed that future owners of Nintendo’s Wii will have the option to browse the internet using Opera’s web browsing software. Nintendo previously announced that Opera would be providing such software for the Nintendo DS and now it will do the same for the Wii.

"Nintendo is clearly visionary in leading the gaming industry into the new era in gaming, and a wonderful partner for Opera," stated Jon von Tetzchner, CEO of Opera Software. "We are thrilled to expand our partnership with Nintendo, and work with them to deliver the best gaming experience on the Wii console and the Nintendo DS."

As some of you may have already read, if a Wi-Fi signal is nearby, the Wii will automatically connect to it and will be connected to it at all times, even when powered off, thanks to the recently announced WiiConnect24 feature. This feature allows the Wii to download game updates at all times, enhancing the online gaming experience for Nintendo gamers.

Navigating through the internet should prove to be very intuitive using the Wii’s motion sensitive controller and we’ll have more on this web browsing software as it breaks.
