Atari Sells off Driver IP and Its Developer to Ubisoft
Can Ubisoft turn the Driver around? July 14th, 2006 (12:33am) - Atari has sold off one of its top IPs, Driver, and its developer Reflections to Ubisoft for about $24 million.
The reason for the sell off is because Ataris parent company, Infogrames has hit rough times with their profits and has been late on paying back loans to its debtors. The deal is expected to close during Ubisofts second fiscal quarter, which ends September 30, 2006. Most of the assets and personnel involved in the game series will be moved to Ubisofts ownership. However, Atari is retaining the rights to previous installments of the Driver games for three months, except for Driver: Parallel Lines, which they hold until the end of 2006.
