Sony Will Not Be Dropping Price On PSP This Year

Sony says "No!" to basic business strategies and claims the PSP’s price is fine where it is for the year.

August 14th, 2006 (12:57pm) - After rumours came out this past week about a PSP price drop, Sony has gone on the record and said that there are no plans to drop the price of the PSP at this time.

The rumor mill started when industry analyst P.J. McNealy, told CNN Money: "There is a price cut coming in the second half of the year."

McNealy went on to mention that the PSP "has lost momentum. Nintendo has had a great run since it launched the DS Lite and Sony needs to regain some ground." He believes that Sony will slash the price of the handheld in the US from $199 to $149 - bringing it closer to the DS price point of $129.

However, this morning a UK Sony spokesman told told GI.biz: "Currently we have no plans to cut the price of the PSP at this time."

Speculation has been fueled further however as some analysts have made mention of a possible price cut for the PS2. Will this hold any truth? Only time will tell.
