Sonys First PC Blu-Ray Drive Cant Play Commercial Movies?
First generation PC Sony Blu Ray drive doesnt allow for commercial movies to be played out of the box. August 14th, 2006 (1:24pm) - Sony has just released their first internal Blu-Ray drive for the computer down under and have run headfirst into a wall so to speak. The BWU-100A which plays and writes Blu-Ray discs in Australia apparantly doesent play Blu-Ray movies!
When asked about this Sony reps have cited two problems: lack of HDCP (High Definition Copy Protection in case you forgot) compliant video cards and there isnt any retail software that can actually play Blu-Ray movies, unless of course you purchased a Sony Viao laptop. One could wonder why the software on said laptop wasnt packaged in with the BWU, but who knows? When asked for comment, Sony says theyre optimistic about resolving both minor issues soon, and that for now the device is still 100% functional for storage, and can play back your own home-burnt movies as well. The BWU-100A could be yours all for a paltry sum of AU1,399, or about $1,075 US. Operators are standing by. Reported by Andrew T. Finger on August 14th, 2006 (1:24pm) [From: Engadget]
