Both games to feature online multiplayer modes. August 23rd, 2006 (5:25am) - During its "Wii Prove Our Promise" press conference Nintendo revealed two new games for the Wii, both of which had previously been rumored to be in development for the console for the past few months; these two titles are Mario Strikers Charged and Battalion Wars II (which has the clever abbreviation of BWii).
Mario Strikers Charged is the sequel to the GameCubes Super Mario Strikers and is once again being developed by Next Level Games. The game is said to feature an expanded roster and will utilize the Wiis remote and Nunchuk attachment to play the game very similarly to the its predecessor. However, a mini-game of sorts will allow users to take control of the goalie and use the Wii-mote to manipulate the goal keepers hands in attempt to perform saves against an opponents shots. Most importantly, however, is the announcement of Mario Strikers Charged featuring an online multiplayer mode courtesy of the Nintendo WiFi Connection service, allowing players to take part in worldwide tournaments. Kuju Entertainment is returning to helm the development of Battalion Wars II for the Wii and the biggest news concerning this game is that it will indeed feature a variety of online multiplayer modes, the three of which are Assault (Instant Combat), Skirmish (Tactical Depth) and Co-op (working with friends). While Mario Strikers Charged was demonstrated at the conference, Battalion Wars II has been confirmed to be playable for the show. Reported by Elias Dounis on August 23rd, 2006 (5:25am)
