Age of Conan Ships 1 million in Three Weeks
A game that is selling like World Warcraft? Thats Unpossible! June 7th, 2008 (7:49am) - Funcom has announced that Age of Conan has officially shipped over 1 million copies. That would make Age of Conan the most successful MMORPG launch since the 900 million billion pound gorilla that is World of Warcraft.
Age of Conan could also be termed the first major MMO release since WoW. Other games have launched, but only met limited success since the bar for entry was raised with WoWs launch. AoC goes in almost the exact opposite direction of WoW in terms of design. AoC goes for a realistic and bloody look and is a grim, violent world where WoW uses more gentle approach. The games also differ in terms of Player vs. Player content since PvP is an afterthought in WoW and just one of many activites that the game propels players into while AoC makes PvP a large focus of the game. AoC has been at the top of the charts since its release and isnt slowing down despite some criticism of frequent patches since its launch. Funcoms Sales and Marketing vice president Morten Larssen said, "Sales data shows that Age of Conan is the biggest MMO launch since World of Warcraft. The numbers are very promising, and we are very proud to be one of the fastest selling PC games ever in a launch month and the biggest simultaneous Europe/US MMO launch in history."
