Turbine To Churn Out Console MMORPG
Lord of the Rings Online developer attempts to draw power from one of the largest untaped console markets. June 12th, 2008 (6:47am) - Been itching to slay some boars on your 360? How about a little PVP on your PS3? Perhaps you just want to ride an epic mount all over your Wii. Turbine may have you covered. The company has revealed that theyre working on a console MMORPG, though the details, including what system it will be released on, are a mystery.
The company apparently received a cash-infusion in the neighborhood of $40 million for the project from media conglomerate Time-Warner and several other companies. Jim Crowley, CEO of Turbine, said the company is "investigating the world of cross-platform games. These worlds are so rich and robust, we do want them to be shared across platforms, both for existing and future worlds." The company has done a lot of hiring, but still has around 40 open spots, according to Turbines communications director Adam Mersky. "Weve hired over 60 people since the beginning of the year," said Mersky. "Time Warner...one of the media giants [is] getting into the MMO fold, and thats obviously a big deal. They also have a huge distribution network.... That may bear fruit for us."
