Grind Away Your Days In Oz

Weird news of the day: Media Vision is bringing The Wizard of Oz to the DS as an RPG

June 14th, 2008 (6:00pm) - Ever wanted to explore the Emerald City at your leisure? Have dreams of following the Yellow Brick Road while grinding levels? Well does Media Vision have the DS game for you. The developer’s latest title will be called Riz-zoawd, and it’s an RPG that takes place in the Wizard of Oz universe.

The story puts gamers into the shoes of Dorthy, who lives with her dog Toto. Her parents died some time ago, but she’s unable to leave the house and its memories behind, so she continues living by herself.

As the story goes, a tornado lifts Dorthy, Toto and the house from the ground and whisks them to Oz. When Dorthy awakens she is met by the shadowy Oz, ruler of the land, who bestows upon her a pair of shoes to traverse the land with. Good thing, too, since he demands she come to his castle.

Predictably, you will run into the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, and the Lion, all of which become members of your party. The game takes place over the four seasons, spring through winter.

Moving Dorthy requires players to rotate a ball on the touch-screen. The battles, which allow you a party of three, take place from a Dragon Quest style perspective (behind your party). Commands are selected on the touch-screen.

It’s being said this game will push the DS to its limits graphically, but what developer doesn’t like to bandy that phrase about when developing a new game? There’s no doubting the game will at least be interesting, but Media Vision’s pedigree suggests the game will have at least a decent level of shine to it. Keep it here for more.
