No More Pedestrian Paradise Sundays in Akihabara

Let’s hear it for the crazies ruining it for everybody

June 15th, 2008 (9:59am) - Akihabara, also known as Akihabara Electric Town, will no longer be pedestrian walkway on Sundays. The Chiyoda ward government which presides over the district that includes Akihabara announced that the main street, Chuo-doori, would no longer be closed to traffic on Sunday.

They did not give an indication if this is a permanent change or only a temporary measure after last Sunday’s attack in the area.

Seven people were killed when a man went on a stabbing rampage that left ten people injured in addition to the seven people that were killed.

Due to this happening in the Akihabara district, there has been a great amount of energy expended trying to link the attack to video games and anime. The attacker drew a picture from the Tales of Destiny in his class yearbook, but makes no mention of anything related in his statements about the attack.
