E3 2008: Netflix To Stream Through Xbox Live
Live members who also have a NetFlix account will be able to make use of both at the same time. July 14th, 2008 (9:02pm) - The much rumored partnership between Microsoft and Netflix has finally become reality. At the E3 game conference, Microsoft said that on-demand Netflix will come to Xbox Live Gold, its online service for the Xbox 360 console, at the end of year. It wil be free to people who are already susbcribe to both Netflix and Xbox Live.
This idea makes sense for a number of reasons: Mail-order DVD service will eventually get phased out, and Netflix already uses Microsofts DRM technology to stream movies to PC. While this is great news for Xbox 360 owners there the initial offering of movies is pretty dismal, only 10% of Netflixs total catalog is available, only two of which are in the top 100.
