E3 2008: Sony Conference Summary

Sony continues to try and rebuild their image, announcing some new games and some new deals.

July 17th, 2008 (12:12pm) - he final press conference for the big three at E3 2008 was Sony’s. While they didn’t pack a huge punch, they had what was arguably the most enjoyable of the three shows.

The conference was presented using the upcoming Playstation Network title LittleBigPlanet -- a welcome change from the usual stuffy presentations (ahem, Nintendo).

A greatest hits line was revealed for the PS3, which includes Resistance: Fall of Man, Motorstorm, Warhawk, Call of Duty 3, Fight Night, Need for Speed: Carbon, Rainbow Six Vegas, Assassin’s Creed, Elder Scrolls IV, and Ninja Gaiden Sigma. The titles will cost $29.99.

The PS2 will apparently see a special edition this holiday season that comes with Lego Batman and the Justice League: New Frontier DVD for $149. Sony also mentioned the system will be seeing 130 games come out for it this year.

Ratchet & Clank: Quest for Booty will be coming to the Playstation Network, and follows the story of the previous PS3 installment. Resistance 2 was shown in video form, as was a trailer for God of War III.

Zipper showed a game called MAG: Massive Action Game, that allows 256 players to play at the same time in eight person squads.

DC Universe Online was shown by comic legend Jim Lee at the show, though more details are set to come forth at the San Diego Comic Con next week.

Sony revealed that they’ll be reintroducing an 80 gigabyte PS3 model with no backward compatability at $399 in September. They also revealed a new PSP value pack that includes a 1 gigabyte memory stick, a National Treasure 2 UMD, a voucher to download Echochrome and the game Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters.
