Indie Game Developer Thrives, Estimates $825K In First Week

August 18th, 2008 (7:03am) - Jonathan Blow, the developer of the Xbox Live Arcade game, Braid, has found success in an industry dominated by large companies such as EA, Activision, etc.

Braid in it’s first week alone was downloaded onto over 55,000 Xbox’s, at a price of $15, resulting in $825K of revenue. While Microsoft’s cut of each sale has not been disclosed it’s a success none the less for Blow.

Sony and Nintendo also offer virtual consoles for their respective platforms. The success of games such as Braid and the ease of distribution provided by the console’s download capabilities will make it feasible for independent publisher to produce innovative and daring games.
