Earthworm Jim Wiggles His Way Onto Virtual Console

October 30th, 2008 (1:39pm) - Just in time for halloween, Earthworm Jim’s scary mug is here to greet you at the door with his tricks and treats. Just make sure to wipe your feet on the cow first (you know how he hates them).

Earthworm Jim, which originally debuted on the Sega Genesis, was renowned for it’s spectacular animation, special effects, funky soundtrack and biting American humor. Along the same lines as Toe Jam and Earl, EWJ offered a lively, surreal landscape of bizzare sight gags and out-of-this-world mechanics; finding a slick balance between run-and-gun gameplay and unique platforming.

And now it can be revisited on the Wii. While the Genesis version was easily the weakest in visual presentation compared to its later ports, its proabbly still got the funkiest feel out of the batch; in large part due to the uniqueness of that system’s sound chip and color palette.

Some may want to wait for the SNES version, which featured stunning effects for its time, like sunglare, or the Sega CD version which featured redbook audio.

Wii can do Sega CD, right? We can hope. In any case, for those wanting to experience a very important chapter of American videogame history, get your cow-launchers ready and look no further than your Wiimote.
