WoW Wrath of the Lich King Shatters PC Game Sales Record

November 24th, 2008 (9:17pm) - Blizzard blew the doors off of the previous one-day sales record for PC games with their latest World of Warcraft expansion, Wrath of the Lich King.

Selling 2.8 million copies of Lich King in the first 24 hours, wrestling the title away from... no one, Blizzard already held the record when they shipped 2.4 million copies of The Burning Crusade. Retailing at $40 brought in over 100 million for Blizzard Entertainment.

Blizzard Entertainment’s CEO Mike Morhaime has indicated that they will continue to release expansion packs as long as there is interest. Competing PC game manufacturers had better step up their games or the Blizzard will turn into a long winter.
