Game InformationDeveloper: Intelligent Systems Publisher: Nintendo Release Date: June 23, 2003 Genre: Strategy Also On: None Website:AdvanceWars.com War… It’s such a nasty thing. Guys getting ripped apart by bullets, blown to bits by grenades, or maybe even hit by a Tank shell. But hey it’s pretty damn fun in a videogame. Just ask anyone who plays SOCOM US Navy Seals! But it can get nasty even in the interactive entertainment realm. On September 2001 Nintendo released the strategy combat sim Advance Wars. A game that blew away everyone’s expectations of the game. And it gets pretty nasty taking on Strum in the final level. I mean make you wanna take your own life hard. Now a couple of years later we get the much wanted sequel. Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising promises to offer up the same great gameplay that was offered in the original - plenty of assault units, a great story, large areas and maps and of course, like the first one super addictive gameplay. With new & old CO’s ready for war! The story goes like this. Sturm, the cruel leader of the Black Hole Army, has created a new base of operations, and now hes set his sights on Cosmo Land. This time, he has new Command Officers (COs) leading a strange legion of soldiers into battle. The armies of Cosmo Land will have to work together if they have any hopes of driving off the otherworldly invaders. With the return of Andy & Sami all grown up along with other CO’s from the Orange Star Army. We have nothing to worry about right? Damn this chic looks like a badass. Run Nell run!
The gameplay remains almost exactly the same as the original. And that’s in no way a bad thing. Since the first Advance Wars game had flawless gameplay. New to the game is the new Neotank it’s a walking battle tank ala Metal Gear or the legendary Star Wars AT-AT’s. Expect it to be extremely powerful & expensive. And don’t count on it having too much travel range. Another one of the best new features is every CO now has 2 special CO attacks. Oh and don’t worry if you’ll rather be Tommy from GTA: Vice City than a hero like The Legend of Zelda’s Link. You can play through the alternative campaign as the Black Hole Army. Almost making AW2 two games in one. Key Features Fight through campaigns for each of the armies to complete the game. Each campaign is made up of multiple missions, each of which has its own different mission objectives, ranging from capturing an enemys headquarters to eliminating your enemys forces.Take advantage of new COs and CO powers, powerful new units, new maps and terrain features that deepen the games strategy elements, while keeping them accessible to new audiences.Use your all-new Super CO Powers, like Typhoon and Airborne Assault, to rain destruction upon your enemy and boost your airborne units combat strength.Discover new units, including the massively powerful neotank, and set off missile silos that can launch devastating attacks from afar. Create even more complex and challenging battle maps using the new Map Editor.Extend game play with Single- and Multi-Pak multi-player modes: create custom maps in the Map Editor, then trade them with friends or challenge them to a war of ADVANCE proportions!Outlook… The first Advance Wars was extremely fun & addictive. And I have no doubt Black Hole Rising will be the same. Remember the intensity of being out and gunned out numbered with enemy forces closing in on your base. You take an Md Tank and an APC with a couple of soldiers to head out to hostile territory. While two Tanks and 4 soldiers fight to protect your base. And you think out every single move like your like is on the line…You use you APC as a decoy and it all works out! You capture their base you won the battle with only 2 guys left. Ok that was one of my AW experiences. But anyone who played the first has one just like it. And the satisfaction of your accomplishment feels better than masturbation. The only thing better I can ask for is GameCube Wars with some online play or Nell coming alive to marry me. ~ditto~
