Game InformationDeveloper: Noise Publisher: Nintendo Release Date: TBA 2004 Genre: Officially Its A RPG Also On: None Website: Nintendo.com If you were into importing games for the n64 than you all ready know that the Custom Robo series had some really great multiplayer and fun custom...well robos. Even though I never imported a copy of Custom Robo or Custom Robo V2 I always wanted to get a taste of one of japans best sellers. A Virtual-On made by Nintendo with RPG elements? I’ve been waiting for Nintendo to release a version stateside for a long time now. Custom Robo has been praised for its long list of features and frantic multiplayer gameplay. And it looks like the GC version will continue that tradition, definitely one to watch. The story takes place on an unknown planet in the not-too-distant future. On this world, a surge in crime involving dangerous, miniature robotic weapons known as Custom Robos occurs. Those that manipulate the Custom Robos are commonly called "Commanders," and through specialized training, they learn to manipulate the robots actions through the use of brain waves. One day, the hero of the game Lei and his comrades learn of an incredibly strong robot with autonomous maneuvering capabilities. In their search for a logical explanation regarding the existence of this powerful foe, the hero and his comrades uncover a secret about an event that occurred on this planet several hundred years ago. The gameplay is simple enough all the "Robo" characters battle it out with their built-in weaponry while flying and leaping all over the place. Just like in the N64 versions, the intense firefights are woven into an RPG-like story mode that revolves around the futuristic equivalents of Ash & Pikachu and a bunch of other Pokemon trainers. Players can customize and build up their own mech soldiers by choosing from 200 different parts and weapons, then send them into battle in one of 30 different fighting arenas. There’s also a multiplayer battle mode that put 4 players on one screen in an all out free for all battle. Or Tag Team matches. With LAN the game supports up to 8 players for even more frantic battles. Key Features Leap into a mechanized melee! Hone your skills in the single-player role-playing game as you progress through a deep sci-fi storyline.Make your own soldier! Customize robots by choosing from more than 200 different parts and weapons, then test their one-of-a-kind abilities against other robots in one of 30 battle arenas.See if your custom robot can survive the frantic, chaotic action of a four-player battle royale, two-on-two vs. Battle mode, or Tag-Team battle match!Battle it out with three other players on a single screen (rather than split-screen), and enjoy a great multi-player party experience. You can customize your own robot, then test its power in battle arenas against other players robots.8 Player LAN support. Come on say it with me…BADASS!!!
Outlook… It’s about time Custom Robo made its way over here to the US. But why tease us at E3 with a 2004 release date? So far the trailer looks sweet. But since Custom Robo hasn’t seen a US release in the N64 days many either don’t care or don’t know what it is in the first place. I’ve been following the series and I hope after all the buzz Custom Robo doesn’t disappoint. Custom Robo has the simple appeal of a game like Super Smash Bros. The hectic pace and nonstop action that blends skill and all out button mashing really works from what Ive seen. Then you add the RPG single player mode. Custom Robo tries to blend two highly addictive gameplay elements in one game: Pokemon-style roleplaying and 2-4 (8 with LAN) shooting action. Not too shabby lets just hope it delivers. ~ditto~
