It’s back--the game that makes you call your friends over so you can give them a good ass-whoopin’, the game that makes your mother scream, the game that makes you spell all words starting with a "C" with a "K" instead.

It’s Mortal Kombat: Deception, and now it’s more different and deadly than ever.

The Fighting System
Remember the Mortal Kombat games that were in 2D? Deception is going to feel a bit like those games, and there’s one big thing that will be reintroduced--the uppercut. Everybody remembers that move. Hey, cheap-move guy: remember back in the good ol’ days when you could crouch down and wait for your little brother’s character to come to you, then release that uppercut and all hell would break loose? Now you can do it again!

The developers have also added light bars under the life meters. These bars help you decide when to attack or block, or even to send your opponent to an instant fatality, as they can make your moves more powerful. In addition, Deception’s fighting system will allow players to get their opponents up into the air and then juggle them more often.

These are solid additions that will appeal to MK fans.

Characters
There will be 24 playable characters in Deception. This list includes the likes of Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Baraka, Mileena, Ashrah, Sindel, Nightwolf, Hotaro, Kenshi, Ermac, Bo Rai Cho, Li Mei, and Jax. There will also be an additional character, and the Deception team is trying to decide whether to make him/her a classic character or design a whole new one.

Environments
The environments in Deception are now fully interactive. Yes, everything. You can knock opponents into glass, kick them off a balcony, hit them into death traps, or even push hanging bodies into them. Some arenas allow you to throw your enemy off the edge of a stage and then fight on the lower level. There are also weapons in the stages that you can use to pummel people. The developers of Deception wanted the surroundings to influence each and every battle.

Arenas
The stages in Deception look really cool, and with all those spiky things around, I’m starting to formulate fatality ideas. Currently GamersMark has screenshots of three arenas: the Sky Temple, the Nethership Interior, and the Dark Prison. Check them out below.

Fatalities
Each character now has two fatalities in their repetoire. Maybe you want to throw your opponent off an arena, where he’ll explode upon hitting the ground. Maybe you want to get creative, freezing his body, ripping his head off, then shattering his remains with it. You can throw him into a burning inferno, to be smashed by a crusher. Or possibly burning his head by blowing fire at it suits your style. Want to get gruesome? Rip his arms off and knock him out with them. Want to get even more nasty? Rip him to shreads with Mileena’s vicious teeth. Want him to feel some pressure? No problem. Use your psychic powers and pull his body in two directions until it rips in half. Either way, you’ll hear that familiar voice:

Wuahahahahahaha... fatality.

There are different game modes in Deception, including Kombat, Chess Kombat, Puzzle Kombat, Konquest, and online play.

Kombat
Self-explanatory. Call your friends over and teach them a thing or two about respect.

Chess Kombat
Now this is innovative. I have never seen anything like this before, and this is a very fresh and new idea. Ok, let me explain.

If you’ve ever played chess, you know that the object of the game is to capture (kill) the enemy king. The idea is the same in Chess Kombat. Players must move their pieces into strategic squares to control the board and things called power squares (these give you advantages in the match).

When you try to occupy the same square as an opponent’s piece is, a round of Mortal Kombat ensues. The winner gets control of the square.

This is a new idea, so people may be a bit perplexed. Well guess what? I am too, but I’m looking forward to trying it.

Puzzle Kombat
Co-creator of Mortal Kombat Ed Boon describes Puzzle Kombat as a mixture between a color-matching game and Mortal Kombat. In this mode, you need to match as many same-colored pieces as you can, then destroy them all with a special "breaker", which then brings all of the debris over to your opponent’s side. The first person whose pieces reach the top loses.

Here’s what makes Deception’s Puzzle Kombat a bit different. Before each match, you can choose a character. Every character has their own special moves that affect the gameplay. Some of these moves may be to eliminate pieces on your side, and others may be used to dump more pieces on your opponent’s side. However, these moves can only be done when your Super Meter is filled.

There is a special piece called a "bomb". When this piece touches a color, all other pieces of the same color are immediately destroyed.

Guess what? There are fatalities in Puzzle Kombat. Now you have something to look forward to.

Konquest
You are given control of a character, and you must explore the six realms. You must train, you must fight, you must explore. Here you need to collect coins to purchase upgrades. You can interact with all of numerous characters in the world; maybe if they get in your way, you’ll just knock them silly.

There is a time and date in Konquest, but not for nothing. Your character, Shujinko, will grow older and continuing aging until he is about 60 years old. Some events will only happen at an exact time and location, so the time is a key factor in the game. Time doesn’t move fast enough, you say? No problem. You can speed it up by meditating.

Online Play
Now you don’t have to invite your friends over. You can beat them up online. Nothing much to explain here.

Mortal Kombat: Deception should appeal to many gamers, including old fans. Plus, its new modes might draw in new players as well. From what I can see so far, this game looks very cool. GamersMark will definitely get out a review when it comes out. Until then...

MORTAL KOMBAAAAAAAT!!
