Land of Legends is the epitome of a good versus evil fight. You (as a commander) control many different races to try and defeat Evil. Evil is encroaching on territories and trying to take over because the many races no longer cooperate. You will have to use each races’ special abilities throughout 32 missions to try and defeat evil and save the world from certain doom. This turn-based simulation is designed to be played for a bit, left, played again. You don’t need hours on end to play this game. An open 10 minutes here and there can be occupied by Land of Legends.

This game appears very simple at first glance but in order to win you truly need to think out your strategy and pick your units wisely, not only for their attack strength but also for their ability to move and their special abilities. In this game you have to think ahead to try and predict your enemy’s movements as well as the best way to attack them while defending your own cities. If you lose your cities you will lose the war because you can no longer build units. On the other hand, if you don’t go and attack Evil they will amass a very large army and you will not be able to survive. Also, in some missions there are objectives that need to be accomplished before a certain number of turns have elapsed. These missions are quite difficult because you really need to plan in advance, not every strategy will work.

Also, in the realm of turn-based strategy, units can only be moved once during a turn. If you are clever though you can move a unit into range to attack and then attack after movement. Although the attack will be diminished this ability to move and attack is necessary in order to achieve success in many missions. In these missions it is important to capture as many cities and important areas (gold mines) as possible. In order to quickly take areas you need units with great influence power. These units cost money and normally are not very good at attacking. This is just one example of how important strategy is in Land of Legends. It takes money in order to maintain an army, and it takes a lot of money to have very specialized units. Money comes from controlling territories.

You aren’t just stuck with 32 missions against computer controlled players. You can also skirmish against the computer, a human on the same computer, or other humans via the internet. This ability should help the game have a pretty decent replay value. It also allows you to get into battle much more quickly than most missions would allow.

Overall Land of Legends is the perfect break time computer game. Easy to start, easy to play, complicated to master. This turn-based fantasy strategy game is sure to turn a few heads.

This game is being developed by independent developer Tiny Hero Game Studios and published by Shrapnel Games. The game will be released online in July 2005. Pre-order Here!.
