Codo games, the developers of X-Com have a new game headed this way, and it’s coming to the GameBoy Advance. Rebelstar: Tactical Command will be hitting Nintendo’s little-handheld-that-could in September, and fans of turn-based strategy akin to Final Fantasy Tactics, and the Ogre Battle series should take note.

Set in the year 2117, it’s the player’s job to defend Earth from the dastardly Arelian Empire, who has been invading our home planet for some time. You’ll assume the role of Jorel (no relation to Superman), who is a new recruit in the human forces. While trying to control mankind through fear and intimidation, the Arelians abduct all humans once they reach the age of 30, and as you can guess, success will rest squarely on the shoulders of Jorel.

The interesting thing about Rebelstar is the way the game displays the enemies. You’ll only be able to see enemies in your character’s line of sight. During a turn you’ll have to find enemies first, before attacking, by rotating the character.

Rotating your character takes action points away, and you’re only given a limited amount each turn. This factors into your attacks as well. Different attacks use different amounts, so it’s up to the player to be wise with how they spend them.

The environment also plays a big role in the battle system. Not only is it destructible, but if you put a character up against a wall facing the other way, that’s one less area enemies you can’t see won’t be coming from, adding to the strategy greatly.

The AI is supposedly smart enough that it plays by the same rules as you. The line of sight system is in full effect for them, as is the usage of the environment.

With multiple modes (multiplayer, campaign, etc.), a plethora of weaponry, a unique twist on the battle system, and lots of level upgrading, Rebelstar: Tactical Command is one strategy-RPG fans of the genre should think about getting their hands on when it releases this September.
