This game has to be the best strategy game on the consoles ever! Saying that there isnt a lot of good strategy games for any of the consoles. If you are going to buy a console to have the best strategy games, just go and invest in a Pc. If youve ever played Front Mission Three, and liked it, then youll love this game. It takes all of the best features and makes them better. The graphics are great, especially the backgrounds. The story was plain and tedious though, about the only flaw in this game. Its not horrible; its just been done before. The layout of the battles and the fields is just perfect! You play on a grid like map, where you choose to attack, recover, stand-bye or see your characters stats. To attack you choose attack on the command menu, the only enemies you can attack are the ones that are in range of your attacks (the yellow squares) If your low on health you can choose recover and it will heal your health up a bit. If you recover on a yellow building that has a star next to it you can get extra combatants for your squad. Stand-bye lets your Character stand in its position, it also lets you get to your next turn faster. If you choose to see your characters stats, you will see what type of AFW (Armored Fighting Walkers) it has and much more. There are four types of AFWs; they are Standard AFW, Light AFW, 4-legged AFW and the Anti AFW. They each have different types of attacks. (which I will not spoil) There are many different types of troops that will help you. They Range from medics to mechanics. The graphics in this game are nothing that special, but they do add that extra kaboom to the game! The troops graphics are not that good. They dont look bad, but Konami couldve done better. The AFW look very good though. And the backgrounds are just jaw dropping! The grid doesnt have really much graphics but its just to shows you where and how and what your doing before battle. The controls are well.... Nothing much. You dont have to do much in terms of control in this game. You aim your weapon in battle and thats about it. But remember this game is very strategic and takes planning to complete your missions. The sound in the game is just "Da bomb" Especially the main menu song, its just really cool. All in all the sounds is very cool. The effects of battle are really neat! This game isnt your typical short PS2 game. Its actually very long. The gameplay might be very varied but any strategy fan will have a blast! Its a little hard to get into especially with the opening story being not very engrossing. Im not a huge fan of the strategy genre, but I knew I would enjoy this game, and I did. I would recommend this game to all strategy fans, and would tell everyone else to check it out, but renting might not prove anything, since you have to get into Ring of Red to really enjoy it. Konami is bringing up a great new franchise for the PS2! Over all this game should be in many peoples library of games. I highly recommend it, but not to everyone. Look into it and see if you like it, but play to get into a very good game! |
