Worms Armageddon breathes a humorous breath of fresh air into war simulation games. Unlike most war games, dripping with realism, gore, and blood, WA is the exact opposite of all that. WA is comical with animated characters (worms!!!) without the blood and gore. The game features hilarious weapons and excellent animation of everything from explosions to fire to the worms themselves. The game is overall a very well-rounded game in all aspects, and comes highly recommended by myself for gamers of all ages.
Graphics: 98/100
The graphics in WA are very colorful, clear, crisp, and fast. The game takes advantage of 3D cards, amazingly enough, given how old the game is, and it is capable of some truly beautiful stuff (as far as animated graphics go). The only minor complaint I can think of is that the water is....... weird. I dont really know what is wrong with the water, but it just doesnt look right for some reason. Oh well, who
cares? The game has a great framerate constantly (not sure what it is, but it will more than suffice), and while it doesnt look like modern games (real-life graphics), I love the graphics of Worms Armageddon.
Sound: 100/100
Never have I heard such perfect auditory effects in a single game before. Anything and everything sounds incredible. The explosions have a very comical, cartoon-ish sound to them, the worms sound great when they talk (like when they fire, they yell "Fire!" and when they fire and miss, they yell "Whoops!"), and what little music there is in the game is very well-sounding. The quality of the sound greatly
depends upon the quality of your sound card and
speakers, so you should go buy a good card and
speakers to fully experience the greatness of the
sound, and preferably 5.1 surround sound speakers
(what I have now).
Gameplay: 100+/100
This is where the game is golden. For some unknown teason, worms have declared war on other worms, so they form little teams and beat the crap out of each other :) Each worm has a very large arsenal of weapons to choose from, ranging from close combat baseball bats to long-range nuclear air strikes. My personal favorite is the Banana Bomb, as it is extremely powerful because when it explodes it explodes into 6 different bombs, each with a massive amount of power. Everything in the game is 100% customizable: the
weapons, the teams, the levels, you name it. There is virtually an unlimited amount of games you can hold. You can choose a ton of varying little extras for your teams, such as their countrys flag, their nationality (changes their accent), number of fighters on it, etc. You can also save these customized features, a major key point. Team 17 concentrated on making great gameplay and graphics, sound, etc. came second
(although they are great as well). My kudos to you, Team 17, whatever theyre worth.
Replay Value: 100+/100
Its a very simple cycle I wish more game developers would understand: better gameplay = better replay value = more people buying the game because they want more. I bought the game many years ago, and still play and enjoy it now as much as I did back then. You have to play it to believe it; one of the extremely rare games nowadays that is insanely fun with no violence, sex, gore, or any of that stuff. Matter of fact, my parents like the game. Excellent replay value.
Overall: 100+/100 =
Worms Armageddon is really a game that should not be passed up. Sadly enough, it is not really a popular game. I heard about it through my friend, and we
played it for hours. Yeah, thats another thing: did I mention its multiplayer? ;-D A game of this caliber really deserves more attention than it got. I guess people wont take it if you cant rip off human body parts in real-time, huh?
