Ever find yourself sitting alone & bored on a plane, train, bus, backseat of dads SUV with your GBA? Playing some RPG with some little critters you just “gotta” catch? Or playing spank the vampire is some magical castle? Or better yet jumping around on a dinosaur trying to kill a giant turtle with sharp teeth and a spiky shell? Or some other experience you’ve had 10 years ago on the SNES. Don’t you wish someone would design a carefree, simple yet addicting title for the road, so you could leave the arcane storylines and mechanics at home? Well your wish is Wario’s command! Keep an open mind and a sense of humor and boom within seconds you’ll be drawn into a world like no other. Step into Wario’s new scheme for money. Enter Wario Ware, INC.

The story is simple Wario wants a new massive moneymaking scheme. With games like Grand Theft Auto & The Legend of Zelda selling millions. What better to do but enter the videogame industry. To do that Wario buys a laptop, sets up shop in Diamond City, calls his friends and gets them to design a whole bunch of games. Then, he publishes them under his own label, gets richer, and then skips town. So he’s created a software company Wario Ware, INC. Of course, games can’t be released until they’re tested, and that’s where you come in. Wario and Co. have over 200 microgames for you to review, each with three levels of difficulty. Players work their way through the town, playing the challenges each of the characters throw at them; 9-Volt, for example, only dishes out challenges based upon classic Nintendo games; Dribble & Spitz offer up Sci-Fi-based mini-games. Kat hands over games based around nature. The game’s ladder ends at the top with a competition against Wario, where he throws out a random assortment of games for the player to accomplish.

Da Wario Ware crew!

The visuals of the game differs from game to game so its not really any fair way to rate the visuals. But what I can tell you is that many can be done on the first Gameboy with ease. While some really show some nice things the GBA is capable of. But ya’know what? WarioWare sports some of the best soundtracks to grace the GBA yet. There’s a wide array of sounds and music, ranging from surprisingly crisp Japanese vocal pieces to radio-DJ-sounding mix transition effects to the requisite digitized voices. Even better with some head phones.

All of his microgames require only the D-pad and the A button, and quite frequently, only one of the two. Sound simple huh? Here’s the catch, you only have around five seconds to clear each game before moving on to the next. I guess Wario gets what he pays for, and he isn’t paying you a dime. Each programmer has his or her own level, where you’ll have to clear a certain number of games to continue to the next. Mona, for example, is trying to get to work with the 5-0 on her six, while the cerebral Dr. Crygor just needs to pee. You’ll soon find yourself bombarded with mini games - with nothing but a one-or-so-word hint like "Pinch!" or "Look out!" as guidance. You may have to catch toast in midair, chop a board in half, or simply survive until time runs out. Half the challenge is figuring out what to do and holding back the laughs. Pass or fail (you get three misses), after an epileptic transition sequence, you’re onto the next task. After a set number of challenges from ten to twenty-five. After that you’ll square off against a longer but still simple boss game.

Conclusion
With over 200 bizarre microminigames (say that 3 times fast) to play & 15 unlockable full classic games. Wario Ware, INC has a lot of non-stop fun to offer players of all ages. Easy to pick up, easy to put down (sometimes), the game is not only probably the GBA title most suited to on-the-go play, but one of its most fun games overall as well.

"Wario Ware, INC has a lot of non-stop fun to offer players of all ages."

If you travel a lot and hate getting interrupted while deep into GBA games like Golden Sun. Do yourself a favor and pick up Wario Ware! So next time you’re on your way some ware you won’t have to panic when you’ve reached your destination searching for a save spot. You’ll have Wario with you and it really won’t matter if you saved or not.

The Good

The Bad
