Introduction

Many of us fear that in order to keep the fighting genre alive, that something new has to be introduced to refresh the entire gore completely, over the years since the birth of its generation, few measures have been made to progress the 2D fighting genre, but nothing more then this stallar has been seen in all its entirety, and just when you thought all 2D’s were the same, something different beckons beyond the realm of predictability, and smacks you in the face with a Hadou Ken. After years of 2d supremacy and rivalment, Capcom and SNK go round-n-round and heads up for the second time, in Capcom Vs. SNK 2. the first event caused mouths to drop and spines to tingle with joy, no one had ever seen an occasion like this before, Capcom and SNK try to remerge the feeling, with CVS2: Millionaire fighting 2001 and with over 40 well known combatants from both Capcom and SNK fame, punching, kicking, swinging and slashing to the top, I think they did a damn good job, I think I feel my spine tingling...

Presentation

Its hard to raise the bar on a good game, that’s a reason why so many out there hate, fear, and revise sequels. The only place to go from the top, is down, and down CVS went with its lame alternative version, Pro Edtion, excuse me when I say, but, WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU PEOPLE THINKING WHEN YOU RELEASED THAT?!?! Eh?
Anyway millionaire fighting 2001 seeks to make up for its mistakes. The original CVS opted for only 2 “grooves.” Which meant a certain style of game play, ether the SNK way of game play, or the Capcom way, CVS 2 is here to opt the “More is Better.” Rule, sporting 6 different kinds of grooves, 3 to support the Capcom way of game play, and 3 to reinforce the SNK style of game play.

Graphics & Sound

We’ve been seeing Capcom and SNK playing with 3D elements in relases lately, Capcom first experimented with full 3D backgrounds in its 2D fighters with Marvel Vs. Capcom 2, with it’s massive lineup of over 50 characters, SNK then seconded the 3D element notion with King Of Fighters : Evolution. CVS 2 follows the limelight; also adding 3D backgrounds into it’s prospective, along with that being said, Capcom also adds its usual array of stunning bold colors, frantic and mesmerizing colors explode like fireworks when attacks are connected, Characters are also treated to a graphic upgrade when performing special moves like fireballs, the additional eye candy really is a treat.

Gameplay

SNK fans may still complain that SNK had to adapt more to Capcom;s ways, due to the Capcom 6 button layout, and not the SNK 4 button layout, but there’s no real cause for concern in that department, at least, not game play wise, the SNK fighters fit nice and snug with capcoms tradional 6 button layout, the only real gripe I would have is playing with the original 4 botton, 2 trigger dreamcast controller, it annoyed the shit out of me in Street Fighter Alpha 3, it annoyed the shit out of me in Street Fighter 3rd Strike, and guess what? It annoys the shit out of me now. Do yourself a favor and get a 6 button controller.

Lasting Appeal

A couple of secrets to unlock, there’s the ability to earn points to edit your own groove, but like so many other games, you’ll find this game at peak performance when friends are over, constant shouts of “Oh, he’s in here?!” and “ I remember him from…” will loom in the air for awhile before the echoing stops.

Conclusion

No real flaws could be found other then the fact that most characters were reanimated, everyone except for Morrigan from Capcom’s Darkstalker fame, the lack of reanimating makes her look “cartoony” and out of place, and other then that damn 6 button lay out, everything else is problem free, at least, no problems big enough to make anyone reconsider buying this game, few surprises, as well as surprise characters, A great game and an absolute must have among fighting genre fans, mostly because most of us have had those “what if So-n-So fought, So-n-So, who would win?” day dreams.
