Introduction Could a Game by Ban Dai actually be any good? Well the answer is finally a yes. Im sure many of you could remember playing a SNES game called Gundam Endless Waltz or possible one of the 2d power rangers games? The game was originally released in Japan about four years ago as Gundam Battle Master 2. The first GBM was a Street Fighter style brawler based on a Super Famicom game called Gundam Endless Waltz. Battle Assault brings back fond memories of Japanese inspired fighters. Presentation With only two real modes of game play G-BA is severely lacking for a fighter. But however for fans of the Anime it is more than enough. You have your basic two player mode as well as the extremely difficult story mode.Graphics & Sound Graphics are great. G-BA is by far one of the best looking 2d fighters on the Playstation. Unlike the Sega Saturn Sonys system had a very bad reputation for its 2d graphics processor. Gundam Battle Assault offers up some pretty bright colors and some pretty amazing character designs. However, youll notice that the lack of in-game moves that the characters should have is very restricted and truly cuts down on the visual display that you hope to find with a game of this type. Featuring several different types of Gundam Mechs, youre put in well designed battlefields, using truly amazing special moves. Something that might turn off most Gundam fans, is the fact that there are no FMVs featuring these heavy duty battle machines. Aside from that, most players wont be too disappointed with what they find.
Gameplay The mechs are slow and heavy, this of course adds to the realism and you can also boost from left to right and into the air for speedier battles. Combos are youre the usual punch, punch kick punch, specials are again the usual hadoken motion with a punch or a kick, same goes for supers but they are performed with a double hadoken motion. Control is simple but takes a little time to get used to, basically you have 4 different attack buttons and 1 boost button. Specials, combos and supers can be pulled off very easily allowing you to dish out massive amounts of damage on your opponent with easeLasting Appeal Well its a no brainier that the game will appeal to the billions of gundam fans. So what is left for the rest of the world. Well, you have one hell of a fighting game that will keep you glued to the set for hours trying to at least beat it. Yes this is one hard game. Conclusion While there are better 2d fighters out for the psx G-BA is definitely worth a look. Especially if your a fan of the Anime. However you might have a hard time finding the game. Ebay is most likely the best place to start. |
