Introduction Last years Champion Motocross game was very impressive and quite fun. Considering there was little to no competition THQ created one of the best Motocross games on the Playstation. However while the sequel improved upon its predecessor it is still lacking compared to the new competition this time around.Presentation From the moment you put the CD into your Playstation you begin to feel the adrenaline rush that pumps you up before the big race. Menu navigation is a major plus from last years game. Everything is easier to get to and well balanced. However there are some problems, for instance, after you have raced in career mode there is no turning back without resetting the console..Graphics & Sound Graphics are very good for the slowly dying Playstation. The bikes are well detailed and the scenery, well what you can see of it, looks very bright and colorful. The crowds are your usually moving paper cut out dolls. Also if your one of the many out there with a small television maybe you should look into getting a larger one. Because it will be impossible to read anything with a screen smaller than 19". Music was one of my personally favorites, with underground bands such as Bomb 32, One Minute Silence, Pimpadelic, Primer 55, Taproot, Good Riddance, Strung Out, and Guttermouth you cannot go wrong. While this is your typical mix of punk rock and metal it adds to the game very well.Gameplay Normally one would be compelled to give Championship Motocross 2001 a perfect score for all of its offerings alone. However when you dig into each option you begin to rethink weather or not it is necessary. Loose controls hamper the play at first but are easily mastered in a matter of minutes. The biggest drawback it the lack of large rewards. After working your ass off you find yourself rewarded with next to nothing, thus causing upgrades to your bike to be very tedious and slow.Lasting Appeal If you are a motocross racer or just your everyday gamer looking for some fun. Championship Motocross 2001 has it all for you. There is less emphasis on tricks and more on actually finishing the line first. Dont get us wrong this is not a simulation racer. Championship Motocross is pure arcade action at its best. Conclusion While Championship Motocross 2001 is lacking a lot of content that could have easily made it the top motocross game on the market today. Mixing both Arcade action and simulation difficulty Championship Motocross 2001 falls somewhat short of EAs Super cross in terms of originality. Still worth your money and one of the last great Playstation games. |
