Introduction I remember playing DOA2 at my home, on the tiny Dreamcast whooping it up on some friends. They& After hearing of the development of such a game I was eagerly awaiting my prized Xbox. Finally it had come, and the first game that I popped into the sleek, black disc tray, was DOA3. Was the party really over before? Was it about to start up again at full blast? Well, let me just say that the party just turned into a wild ride at Mardigra, and these girls are doing more than just lifting their shirts&Presentation When you first look at DOA3 you are automatically filled with anticipation and just plain adrenaline. The opening scenes of the game feature a few cut scenes and exciting moments of seeing fighters battle it out in between houses and cliffs, knocking themselves off to a hellish abyss, where there they get back up, pat their clothes away of dirt and go about fighting again. The graphics are solid and fit well with the movements as a hole making the fighting seem more realistic (if you don&Graphics & Sound The graphics are phenomenal for a first gen title. The Xboxs power is showed off without much hesitation in this new advancement of the fighting genre. Not only are the graphics solid, but they& The graphics aren&
Gameplay The play mechanics themselves prove to not only be simplistic, but also complicating as well. To say in the least, each button does the same thing for each character, but it& Though the Xbox controllers buttons are closely set together, it is adequate enough to pull off a combo in record speeds and it& Not only do the fighters play well with their own techniques and personalities, but so do the environments they battle in. Sending your opponent into the nearest tree, icicle, or even off a cliff does substantial damage and can also show off some other impressive moves you never knew your character had to begin with. For example, Hayabusas kicks are usually normal jump kicks to the head. Done properly against an object of your choice, he& The gameplay is brilliant and random. There are no times where it gets repetitive or old, unless the players wish it to be. Every part of DOA3 is interactive and ever changing. A great feature that we have never been able to see in 2-3D fighters yet. Lasting Appeal Hook up a few extra controllers and go to Tag Team mode and you have yourself a party and porkgrines to spare. This gem of a figter features several lasting multiplayer sessions where you and your buddies can duke it out to see who dies first. And let me tell you, they arent just fun to play...they are a hell of a lot fun to watch as well. Have a grudge? Want to bet? Go ahead and beat your partner right off a ten story building and let them see how serious you are. Conclusion Being the first fighting game for the Xbox and possibly the greatest fighting game of all time, Id say this little gem deserves all the hype it can get. Never before has a fighting game broken such boundries as these and actually made the player use skill and tactics to destroy another. Never before have graphics of this calibur been seen in a game such as this. And never before has a fighting game been this much fun. Not perfection, but a damn good start to a genre that will be revived to something more epic, challenging, and more than just your average "beat em up". |
